Our focus is on lifestyle-related diseases, such as cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, and obesity. These diseases are govern by complex physiological processes and shaped by nutrition, metabolism and hormones, with insulin, responsible for glucose absorption from the blood. Defining the regulatory signalling pathways and genetic and dietary factors are key to the development of novel and efficient means for disease risk reduction and new therapeutic strategies in metabolic disorders.

To better understand the physiological role of LXRs and other NRs in cross-talk with LXR, our ultimate goal is to gain an integrated molecular-to-organism view of how these lipid activated transcriptional factors regulate metabolism. This will be achieved by integrating state-of-the-art approaches in human and mouse genetics, functional genomics and proteomics, with animal and human physiology. This insight will validate these lipid activated NRs as therapeutic targets to combat metabolic disorders.
